The first time I fished for them was a trip to Colorado years ago and what I remember was how aggressive they were and how hard they fought. On that trip everyone I caught came on a streamer stripped below the surface.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zyDklfH5ZWk/VvsV_BWI5ZI/AAAAAAAADrQ/ZqT-fOJn4h8qupnC6wrlnwmgqNHMLk6Dw/s1600/C35.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-zyDklfH5ZWk/VvsV_BWI5ZI/AAAAAAAADrQ/ZqT-fOJn4h8qupnC6wrlnwmgqNHMLk6Dw/s640/C35.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This was a beast caught in Colorado.<br />
<br />
After the fish were stocked this month I waited a week to give them time to settle down and get adjusted to their new home.<br />
Using a wooly bugger I started my pursuit. After numerous bites without a hookup I added an emerger about eight inches off the hook of the wooly and immediately had a hookup.<br />
<br />

<br />
My first brown trout in texas had been landed and set free. The day ended with twenty one browns landed and all caught on streamers.<br />

The color on these fish is just beautiful. Ive fished two other times since that day and had great results each time. Looking forward to see if they survive the summer and are there next winter.<br />

I will start shifting my focus to other rivers and bass fishing from the kayak. Don't get me wrong. I'll still chase trout, but shift gears to fishing the trout river during the early morning of a weekday before the tube hatch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yJXxfJMNdDk/VvnoegHD5JI/AAAAAAAADpw/dRzI1RY5k6AttHxwkFC4jpQy8Yr8gkG7A/s1600/12669466_496298950576734_4953016916839416506_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-yJXxfJMNdDk/VvnoegHD5JI/AAAAAAAADpw/dRzI1RY5k6AttHxwkFC4jpQy8Yr8gkG7A/s640/12669466_496298950576734_4953016916839416506_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This season has been fun. I have made new friends and was able to catch both Rainbow and Brown trout from the Guadalupe river. The flow has been the best I've seen it in years and with the river bottom being changed by the flood it presented a whole new challenge. But that's the fun of it, learn to adapt.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Hpa7vsNMyU/VvnpkbJHjXI/AAAAAAAADp4/Wk66jV8fV3Elzdmtmi4ouhfOCA0PC6XYg/s1600/12075072_1066809710017214_6372101172541537185_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-9Hpa7vsNMyU/VvnpkbJHjXI/AAAAAAAADp4/Wk66jV8fV3Elzdmtmi4ouhfOCA0PC6XYg/s640/12075072_1066809710017214_6372101172541537185_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJWmN4Ih1o8/Vvnp0jOukTI/AAAAAAAADp8/x0mxk7bXOAoqG3qYmbNEUTf3xZi8YLjCA/s1600/735097_1084658554898996_5231297263655935615_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJWmN4Ih1o8/Vvnp0jOukTI/AAAAAAAADp8/x0mxk7bXOAoqG3qYmbNEUTf3xZi8YLjCA/s640/735097_1084658554898996_5231297263655935615_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Most that know me, know that I love to fish streamers. It has to do with figuring out the presentation and the speed at which a strike occurs. Once a pattern is figured out then a good day gets better.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-osHI_eYgW3w/VvnrJRgk7LI/AAAAAAAADqM/0PBNrM3TX10aaAv0CjtUmLcxBWKQ32RiA/s1600/11140000_1129206357110882_5577605174580651925_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-osHI_eYgW3w/VvnrJRgk7LI/AAAAAAAADqM/0PBNrM3TX10aaAv0CjtUmLcxBWKQ32RiA/s640/11140000_1129206357110882_5577605174580651925_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This season I pushed myself on a new challenge. Built myself a 5wt glass rod and used it almost exclusively with the exception of days that I tossed large streamers. Talk about fun, the bend of the glass and the fight to land a fish is unreal. I could almost cast a small streamer as far with it as a good Loop rod. Now I'm going to build a 7wt to toss the larger streamers.<br />

<br />
This was my third season to fish for trout and by far the best. While there is still a lot to learn I look forward to the challenges that are presented.<br />
See you on the water.Texas Fly Fishing Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15675544375476581777noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922466526592020504.post-25628809105932567392015-10-07T21:18:00.001-05:002015-10-07T21:18:38.646-05:00575/8/5You are probably wondering what the title means. When you get a hall pass you load up the kayaks and haul them to the marsh.<br />
The 575 is the amount of miles to drive from my house in Texas to the camp in Mississippi one way. <br />
The 8 is for how many hours it took to drive that many miles just to chase some redfish.<br />
The 5 would be the limit of legal reds you can keep in a day.<br />
<br />
For two weeks I'd been dreaming about this trip, watching the weather, getting the gear ready, and deciding between the kayak or the SUP.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7rtzglgYEY/VhXKgbsusmI/AAAAAAAADfo/L1I6jf-cuho/s1600/12066061_1039212626110256_8117332680460206118_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-O7rtzglgYEY/VhXKgbsusmI/AAAAAAAADfo/L1I6jf-cuho/s400/12066061_1039212626110256_8117332680460206118_n.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Ended up taking the Jackson Kayak SUPerFISHal as it would give me an advantage paddling into the tight quarters and shallow water. The downside would be it is not the fastest thing out there but ill trade stability for speed on most days. Took three Loop fly rods and one baitcaster for the real windy days.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vnCZSnbIzpU/VhXLbaUqdjI/AAAAAAAADfw/FUaWHpVVCNc/s1600/12079122_1041043495927169_1128748992107699808_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vnCZSnbIzpU/VhXLbaUqdjI/AAAAAAAADfw/FUaWHpVVCNc/s400/12079122_1041043495927169_1128748992107699808_n.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Why are weathermen always wrong, and they still get to keep their job. What was supposed to be flat winds found them blowing 12-15 mph with gusts of 20. Sure made for an exciting trip across the bay to get into the marsh on a paddle board. But we made it and when you look at the pictures you will se that there was no wind due to the tall grass.<br />
It didn't take long to catch my first fish. I felt a bump on the shrimp fly and was surprised to pull in a small trout which I released to grow up.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQEngDFbGJ0/VhXMrAyF5mI/AAAAAAAADf8/NxfSlRb-Pgc/s1600/12119043_1040213916010127_8560448178877480297_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-NQEngDFbGJ0/VhXMrAyF5mI/AAAAAAAADf8/NxfSlRb-Pgc/s640/12119043_1040213916010127_8560448178877480297_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
This would be the only fish caught and I blanked again on day two. The wind was playing havoc and the tides were very low. This made the fish very spooky in the cuts. While I saw a lot of fish it just didn't work out.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EjH_iFbop3o/VhXN7eIcCWI/AAAAAAAADgE/8JoX4RIJEs8/s1600/12096380_1040405289324323_8904403214603360631_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-EjH_iFbop3o/VhXN7eIcCWI/AAAAAAAADgE/8JoX4RIJEs8/s640/12096380_1040405289324323_8904403214603360631_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
When the fish aren't cooperating what do you do.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GrzQ9nQZTiI/VhXPsdKFfJI/AAAAAAAADgQ/BXtT8Sq8-GQ/s1600/IMG_0676.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GrzQ9nQZTiI/VhXPsdKFfJI/AAAAAAAADgQ/BXtT8Sq8-GQ/s400/IMG_0676.PNG" width="225" /></a></div>
<br />
Got up and left at 4am, headed to Louisiana to fish the marsh there out of a boat with a friend. Same scenario with the wind and tide but we found the redfish. While the bite was slow a limit was caught.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Two of the five measured 28" on the board. Turned out to be a great day.<br />

I'm no pro when it comes to making movies but like the way it turned out.
Enjoy.......................

As you get older there are certain things that you want to do before you are hopefully called above. Some of these things you want to share with family and the rest for me pertains to fly fishing.
When the chance came to go on an Alaskan cruise, I immediately began searching for a fly fishing trip at one of the stops along the way. One that caught my eye was offered by <a href="http://www.juneauflyfishing.com/">Bear Creek Outfitters</a> which offered Fly in Fly out services based out of Juneau.
My cousin who was on the trip asked if he could join in which I thought was great since he has never fly fished.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tNpQUiKEd8Y/VYN_dWa3SBI/AAAAAAAADbA/Ol3U31KCEqI/s1600/11406638_977606962270823_579103237343788630_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-tNpQUiKEd8Y/VYN_dWa3SBI/AAAAAAAADbA/Ol3U31KCEqI/s400/11406638_977606962270823_579103237343788630_n.jpg" /></a></div>
The day started with rain as we waited to be picked up. We soon arrived at the Outfitter and were fitted with waders and boots the dropped off at the plane pond. This was a first as I hopped into the plane and readied for the twenty minute flight. The scope of the scenery can only be described as amazing. The perspective of flying low and between mountains gives you a new vision on flight.

The landing was smooth and we were soon on the sandbar meeting our guide and getting filled in on the conditions. Seems the Salmon hadn't moved in yet so we would fish the sandbar for a short time before the tide came in for Dolly Varden trout.

This sandbar would soon be completely underwater. I was able to start fishing while our guide gave casting instruction to the three others. As I waded along the bar a few fish were rising but with water at the top of my waders they were still out of reach. A sea lion popped up about twenty yards in front of me so that was my cue to exit.
We then packed up and moved a half mile to a stream that fed the bay looking for the trout. It didn't take long for my cousin to catch the first fish of the day and his first on a fly. I might have said something about beginners luck and the great instruction that I was giving him. It was exciting to see the smile on his face.

It wasn't long before I hooked up and landed a nice fish. This was another one to add to the list of species caught on a fly.
While they are not a large trout, they have a ton of spirit and fight.

Out of all the pictures that were taken, this has to be my favorite. It is of my cousin Gus and the great form and loop he has for a first time fly fisher.

We ended the day with at least a dozen fish caught by each and he is still rubbing it in about catching the first and most. Told him it was the lucky fishing shirt that my wife talked him into buying. Guess the shirt worked.
Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy the scenery pictures below. It has been a long time since I posted anything.

Someone pinch me.
Trout season is highly anticipated around here. We patiently have to wait for the tube hatch to quit occurring and the river to calm down before it is accepted to start chasing them again.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MxMf2AD2lQ0/VIUcu9vbkrI/AAAAAAAADX8/pYSGj3Fj6rc/s1600/559633_868219429876244_2404759209471907982_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-MxMf2AD2lQ0/VIUcu9vbkrI/AAAAAAAADX8/pYSGj3Fj6rc/s640/559633_868219429876244_2404759209471907982_n.jpg" /></a></div>
The weather has started to cool down and trout have been stocked. It's a little frustrating to be in such clear water that does not flow very fast due to lack of rain and have trout all around you, yet they are spooked easily and hard to catch.
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ukwVctCv20/VIUeE-qYfaI/AAAAAAAADYE/Lb8YeS1FTuA/s1600/10473806_866126710085516_1027277798318400396_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-_ukwVctCv20/VIUeE-qYfaI/AAAAAAAADYE/Lb8YeS1FTuA/s640/10473806_866126710085516_1027277798318400396_n.jpg" /></a></div>

The fishing has been good. All of the fish shown were caught by nymphing. Not much luck with streamers but the good news is the evening hatch has started making the dry bite better.

The clearest water that I have ever seen in a river and some of the most rugged terrain in the state added to the beauty of this trip.<br />
The folks at ReelFly Fishing Adventures went out and made a video while fishing the river.<br />
Thought I would share it with you so if you've never been you could have a taste of it.<br />

The day called for high temperatures busting 100 degrees and clear skies with no chance of rain.<br />
Looking at the river it became clear that we would be in for some tough fishing conditions. A week earlier thirteen fisherman had to be rescued by helicopter due to a flash flood that sent the water rising over five feet during the night. The water had not cleared as much as I had hoped and visibility was less than a foot.<br />
<br />

<br />
The rain stopped as we slid the kayaks into the water and the heat came out. The first few hours time was spent tossing a popper and a clouser. Neither was producing. Then it happened, tossed the clouser into a tangled cluster of grass and root ball to feel a thump and strip set. The fight was long and nervous but the reward was sweet.<br />

<br />
As the temperature rose during the day, the fishing remained tough as only three more bass were brought to hand.<br />

<br />
Upon reaching the island that we camp on it was evident that with the flood from the week before and all of the washed up debris would make for a hard time trying to find an area capable of hanging the hammocks. Finally found a few downed trees and a tree that had floated to the island that offered enough strength to hold the hammocks for a nights rest.<br />
Lighting the coals as the sun set, we sat around and told stories from trips past and reflected on how freaking hot it had been today and wished that the wind would start blowing. It would have helped with the mosquitos and made for a cooler evening.<br />

A great time was had with my friends but we came to an agreement that we will wait until it's cooler before the next trip.Texas Fly Fishing Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15675544375476581777noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922466526592020504.post-87683272884644387552014-05-19T21:26:00.000-05:002014-05-19T21:26:51.751-05:00Before the StormIt's been dry here. For three years now the rivers have either had no flow or have been completely dry. With the river overnighter being called off due to the approaching storm that was to include some flooding, a river day trip was in order before the storm. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_wM4hIYOm8w/U3LM-eyRssI/AAAAAAAADFA/VqKjEH6EGrE/s1600/10154429_763973433634178_4816812379161233082_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_wM4hIYOm8w/U3LM-eyRssI/AAAAAAAADFA/VqKjEH6EGrE/s1600/10154429_763973433634178_4816812379161233082_n.jpg" height="400" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The morning greeted me with dark skies and wind. Rain would begin to fall thirty minutes before the destination was reached. Loading the Coosa and gear into the 4X4 we headed to a private section of river that can only be accessed by permission from a nice rancher. Rain was pounding as we drove across the river bed and into a pasture where the kayaks would be launched.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tgweuZhWnd4/U3LOZMf6ngI/AAAAAAAADFQ/dcnzRwwhFu0/s1600/10367810_763973460300842_1740055484089283689_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tgweuZhWnd4/U3LOZMf6ngI/AAAAAAAADFQ/dcnzRwwhFu0/s1600/10367810_763973460300842_1740055484089283689_n.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
After launching the kayaks we approached the river alternating working each side. Throwing a popper started producing a few bass along the grass marking the edges of the bank. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h1JipvEUNeY/U3q4UYBoKuI/AAAAAAAADFg/2LYF0yV7izE/s1600/10366173_763971866967668_299746113228027539_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-h1JipvEUNeY/U3q4UYBoKuI/AAAAAAAADFg/2LYF0yV7izE/s1600/10366173_763971866967668_299746113228027539_n.jpg" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Finding a small creek and slipping the kayak through the narrow entry it opened up after ducking through the overhanging branches. Tossing the popper at the edge of a grass bed and seeing a large shadow dart out knocking the popper out of the water before retreating back to the safety of the grass, making the popper explode in the water changed the fish's mind as she turned around and exploded on it. Fighting a large bass on a 5wt was insane. I had to let the drag on the Opti reel wear down the fish before easing my hand into its mouth and lifting it up for pictures and a quick release.</div>

<br />
The rain quit and after a short lunch we launched again with the sun high over our heads.<br />

<br />
Putting the popper away. I took out my 8wt Loop Cross S1 and tied on a Cajun Cheerleader to imitate the crawfish that I knew were lurking down below. What a good move it was as the bass were holding tight to cover. This set up produced quite a few more fish to close out the day.<br />

With the weather being very inconsistent here in Texas and figuring it was still a few weeks away before the beds are inhabited. I paddled around on the SUP to get a better view from a standing position while throwing poppers and Cajun cheerleaders to the nearby flats.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It didn't take long to figure out that the bass were not shallow so it was time to move to the deeper trees and toss a crawfish imitation fly into the brushy depths.</div>

<br />
With no success in the deeper water, tactics were changed again and I started fishing the outer edges of the grass and its drop offs. This was the pattern that I was hoping to find as buck bass were caught followed by some fat females that were bulging with eggs.<br />

With the recent cold, ice, and snow here in Texas it's made getting out to fish pretty tough.<br />
Loaded the gear last night and headed out early in the morning to the Guadalupe river to try my hand at some trout. Greeted with a brisk wind as the sun began to peak through the clouds roaring by up above. Soon there would be some trout rising and cruising around this stretch of the river and hopefully they would feed on the wooly bugger that was being slowly stripped below the surface.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2EbhPq73JCs/Uu3bfkE9v1I/AAAAAAAADBg/AwdTUkVSGa0/s1600/8194_711625932202262_785794208_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2EbhPq73JCs/Uu3bfkE9v1I/AAAAAAAADBg/AwdTUkVSGa0/s1600/8194_711625932202262_785794208_n.jpg" height="640" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
It wasn't long before the stripped bugger stopped and a trout was doing his best to shake what was now piercing his jaw free. After several runs the net was slid under it and after pictures the fish was set free.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XExDQaaeoQA/Uu3cGgmvdLI/AAAAAAAADBo/BEsyjnY1ieI/s1600/1557579_711625855535603_1052056053_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-XExDQaaeoQA/Uu3cGgmvdLI/AAAAAAAADBo/BEsyjnY1ieI/s1600/1557579_711625855535603_1052056053_n.jpg" height="480" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
Soon after the release another one took the streamer as it slowly made its way through the river.<br />
<br />

<br />
The action stayed consistent and after a quick lunch I was back at it with the same pattern still producing.<br />

<br />
A much needed break was had and the fish cooperated on this day.<br />
See you on the river.Texas Fly Fishing Adventureshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15675544375476581777noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4922466526592020504.post-13286639741281813572014-01-21T00:22:00.001-06:002014-01-21T00:22:46.386-06:00Passing it onWith the trout not biting, I watched as my son made cast after cast to a section of river that constantly produces for me. With each strip I await the sound that you make when you catch that first fish doing something new. As the sun starts setting behind the trees, a rod tip is lifted and excitement fills the cold air as I hurry back upriver to help net the trout. A quick picture and a high five let me know that a new bond had been formed between him and the river.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUAZfv-TCI0/Ut4PFMjFlUI/AAAAAAAADAU/1bauVOs3u4E/s1600/1558525_702258743138981_1378654772_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MUAZfv-TCI0/Ut4PFMjFlUI/AAAAAAAADAU/1bauVOs3u4E/s1600/1558525_702258743138981_1378654772_n.jpg" height="640" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
This was something that I've been looking forward to the whole time he was away at school. Trying to teach him a new way to fish has not been easy but with some casting help from one of my guide friends he picked up on it after a few hours.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
A few minutes later he was hooked up again and after a few jumps the trout sent the wooly bugger back to him. As the light was fading I managed a few trout to the net on a dry fly and he ended the day landing his second trout.<br />

<br />
Having booked a full day trip on the Guadalupe river with <a href="http://www.reelfly.net/"><span style="color: red;">ReelFly Fishing Adventures</span></a>, today wasn't about me but more about helping a friend catch his first trout on the fly rod. Watching his indicator go under and seeing the smile on his face as the trout bent the fly rod over is what its all about. A picture was taken and then a released fish swam away to hopefully bring a smile to another face one day.<br />

<br />
After a few more fish, lunch made its way down to the river as ReelFly had BBQ sandwiches delivered to take care of the hunger pains that had built up.<br />
Sliding the raft over the weir, we made our way down to where a limestone shelf runs along the bank and a cut channel right along it. Drifting the rig through and seeing the indicator go under I soon had my first fish of the day. <br />

After releasing the fish. Brent dropped us off on the ledge so we could work down it while he took the raft through a shallow section. Again, my indicator went down and with the rod lifted a large Rainbow came out of the water trying to shake free. Seeing the size of the trout, Brent dropped anchor and came running with the net. The fish had taken me to the reel and ended up bending the hook and releasing itself before we could slide it into the net.<br />
Fixing the hook and casting in the same drift. I was met again with another large trout, this time the odds were in my favor and the fish was quickly released after a photo and high five with the guide.<br />

Working our way down the river brought more fish during the day with most all being good sized trout.<br />

Having fished the day before and days prior to this trip had me knowing that conditions would be tough. Brent from ReelFly worked hard all day finding fish as well as coming up with a pattern by pumping a few stomachs and matching the hatch. The result was a successful day with close to 15 trout caught and released.</div>

While I won't get a fraction of the gear that will be listed here, there are still a few items that would come in useful as I paddle and wade myself across this state.<br />
<br />
While we don't get extremely cold for a long period of time, we do have the occasional three to four day front that comes in dropping the temps and making fishing miserable for a while. One thing that is lacking would be a good wading jacket. It would have to be warm but flexible to be able to take while fishing from the kayak or while wading the river.<br />
The <a href="http://kastgear.com/outerwear/velocity-jacket-grey.html"><span style="color: lime;">KAST Velocity jacket</span></a> would be my choice for this since it offers the functionality that i'm looking for.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gjVAF7H_jgA/UpPCgCSEoHI/AAAAAAAAC4M/M5oWOF1kTcY/s1600/velocity_grey_front_small.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-gjVAF7H_jgA/UpPCgCSEoHI/AAAAAAAAC4M/M5oWOF1kTcY/s640/velocity_grey_front_small.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
Another item needed is a new pair of wading boots. Currently I wear a pair of hunting boots over my waders. While they have worked they are not made for wading. The boots that I am looking at are made by<a href="http://www.korkers.com/footwear/fishing/chrome.html"><span style="color: blue;"> Korkers footwear</span></a> and come with interchangeable soles to change for traction assistance.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lC_UW8P089s/UpPESz-UaiI/AAAAAAAAC4Y/wgYjAmE9Hqw/s1600/chrome2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="588" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lC_UW8P089s/UpPESz-UaiI/AAAAAAAAC4Y/wgYjAmE9Hqw/s640/chrome2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When wading I try to pack as light as possible and should be able to save weight and take the important items with me by utilizing a<a href="http://vedavoo.com/shopping/tightlines-sling-pack/"> <span style="color: yellow;">Tightlines Sling Pak by Vedavoo</span></a>, and it's made by hand in the USA.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NEDOIEYS-xg/UpPIDlBiV8I/AAAAAAAAC4k/LQX6fZgW3ao/s1600/cache_625_625_3__100_13WEB_Tightlines_Gold-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-NEDOIEYS-xg/UpPIDlBiV8I/AAAAAAAAC4k/LQX6fZgW3ao/s640/cache_625_625_3__100_13WEB_Tightlines_Gold-1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A good pair of nippers comes in handy and the best of the best would be made by <a href="http://www.abelreels.com/store/Abel-Nippers.html">Abel Reels</a>. Yes it seems like a lot for a pair of nippers, but if you take care of them I think it would be money well spent judging by the feedback that I get from people who have been using them. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j-TMfJ-lK7U/UpPKObeTcHI/AAAAAAAAC4w/2WC4g7Rwn_s/s1600/splash12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="342" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-j-TMfJ-lK7U/UpPKObeTcHI/AAAAAAAAC4w/2WC4g7Rwn_s/s640/splash12.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One can never have too many hats and I like the hats that<a href="http://howlerbros.com/collections/hats"> <span style="color: lime;">Howler Brothers</span></a> offer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My Lifeproof case has started to wear at the perfect time. I guess putting it in and taking it out of the life jacket case has taken its toll on it. Looking around at my local fly shop and seeing the Lifeproof case by<a href="http://www.derekdeyoung.com/store/deyoung-lifeproof-iphone-4-cases"> <span style="color: orange;">DeYoung Canvasfish</span></a> has me hoping Santa puts one of these in my stocking.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dRKMn5BV3kU/UpQgjguHZHI/AAAAAAAAC5A/TmUgx5yNIso/s1600/Lifeproof4_Rainbow_web-250x135.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="344" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dRKMn5BV3kU/UpQgjguHZHI/AAAAAAAAC5A/TmUgx5yNIso/s640/Lifeproof4_Rainbow_web-250x135.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When you wear Buffs on every outing. It doesn't hurt to have a nice variety.<a href="http://buffusa.com/sports/collections/uv-bug-slinger-trade-buff-reg/styles/filter/fishing"><span style="color: blue;"> Original Buff</span></a> has been making some that are exclusive to fly fishing and have some cool designs by<span style="color: red;"> </span><a href="http://bugslinger.com/collections/new-arrivals/products/bug-slinger-buff-s"><span style="color: red;">Bug Slinger</span></a>.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Decided to hit the Guad up today and see how the trout bite was doing. <br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SbN9nVihUOY/UowYwNdNGKI/AAAAAAAAC3E/2GtsWRkRgFc/s1600/photo+%252819%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-SbN9nVihUOY/UowYwNdNGKI/AAAAAAAAC3E/2GtsWRkRgFc/s640/photo+%252819%2529.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Slipping into the water I was worried about the cold since the waders were left behind and I chose to wear shorts. With the hot weather that we have had lately the water felt good until you got waist deep. Wading a few hundred yards over the slippery rocks and limestone ledges, my destination was reached and I began to cast a Girdle bug upon the cypress needle covered water. Working the fly just below the surface and feeling the bend of the custom glass rod as I gently stripped and lifted the rod to set the hook. Fish on and after a short fight I worked it into the net for a few pictures and a release.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Another bonus that occurs this time of year is the changing of colors as fall arrives in Texas. We are not in an area that has extreme changes during the different seasons but when we do, the beauty is magnified.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The day was productive for the few hours that were fished. Occasionally a trout would rise but I had no takers on dry's. Most of the fish caught were on a girdle bug in black with white legs. Had a few followers when throwing a booger in black and green but the size didn't appeal to the fish.</div>

Locking the oars in place after settling into the seat. Steam rising from the water, the aftermath of the cold front passing through during the night. Today, the fourth day on the water I am greeted with sore muscles in my back and neck and a burning in my arms as I expel energy to get the raft with all it's gear moving forward to start the day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tVNBhoQGbj4/UoBSMwnz7FI/AAAAAAAACzk/kp1AgtfVvtI/s1600/PB070145_zpscda8de0a+(1).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tVNBhoQGbj4/UoBSMwnz7FI/AAAAAAAACzk/kp1AgtfVvtI/s640/PB070145_zpscda8de0a+(1).jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The trip began with me stopping into<a href="http://www.reelfly.net/"> <span style="color: red;">ReelFly Fishing Adventures</span></a> to say hello and welcome them back home after taking the summer off to guide in Utah to get away from the heat here in Texas.<br />
Before leaving the shop I had agreed to row a raft with a cameraman, his assistant, and all of their gear down the Devil's river. The most remote and dangerous river in the state along with being the most beautiful.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GjwwkxAwYiQ/UoBWINm3sKI/AAAAAAAACzw/F1BlxqJ2XIs/s1600/1394355_668246743206848_2017245316_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-GjwwkxAwYiQ/UoBWINm3sKI/AAAAAAAACzw/F1BlxqJ2XIs/s640/1394355_668246743206848_2017245316_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
How often do you actually get to scratch something off your bucket list with the demands put on you these days. When the chance arises, you sometimes have to go for it. Going into this I knew it would be very demanding since the Devils river is one of the most remote stretches of river in Texas. The majority of its land is private and once you put in you are a good three days from taking out. Besides being picturesque with its fall colors and crystal clear waters, it is home to some serious class II and III rapids along with a 15ft waterfall. .<br />
<br />

The drive there was like sitting around a campfire as I listened to stories of rugged terrain and large fish being discussed from trips taken before. It seemed to take forever to get to our destination as it usually does when you are ready to start any adventure. Turning off the highway and onto a dirt road that made its way through cliffs and washed out creek beds just made the anticipation grow. Turning that last corner and seeing the beauty of the river for the first time made it all worthwhile.<br />

Sleeping on the small islands that nature had provided made for peaceful nights as you listened to the sound of water moving over rocks as the wind gently rocked the tent hammock that we each slept in. The bugs were kept at bay with the mosquito netting and full rainfly to keep you dry during the night, My only wish would have been to have a skylight to enjoy the stars in between the storms.</div>

Two cold fronts passed through our area days apart keeping the fish at bay for most of the trip. Fish were caught, but it took many casts to entice the take. The natural beauty of this place made the scarcity of hooking up seem irrelevant as you drifted by engrossed in the sights.From the deep crystal clear pools of water to the rugged cliffs, it was like being in an old Western movie.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Whether it be something that seems easy to you or something that is a task, if you go about it the right way it will be rewarding regardless.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em>Driving into the Hill Country with storm clouds up in the sky sets your mind racing to the events that will occur during the day as I was volunteering my time to take a Hero fishing.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sHFlgbjh2kw/UmG0B1ND_FI/AAAAAAAACwU/KMv28QCbIMc/s1600/1376320_10151593478562624_20686693_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sHFlgbjh2kw/UmG0B1ND_FI/AAAAAAAACwU/KMv28QCbIMc/s640/1376320_10151593478562624_20686693_n.jpg" width="480" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>This would be the second time this year that I was able to assist on one of these events and just as much fun as the first one done in the spring. After arriving we started getting all of the gear rigged up for the many people that would join us to fish today. The joy of it was watching and helping children of these soldiers catch their first fish.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-msJiDrCn3nE/UmG0zlqfZiI/AAAAAAAACwc/RlgmbZF3pgs/s1600/945841_10151592255192624_574416837_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-msJiDrCn3nE/UmG0zlqfZiI/AAAAAAAACwc/RlgmbZF3pgs/s640/945841_10151592255192624_574416837_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>The event was successful and everyone of them caught fish on this day.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AIDJAWFKEeg/UmG1SAXrbrI/AAAAAAAACwk/Dz5F9hKijJY/s1600/rr8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-AIDJAWFKEeg/UmG1SAXrbrI/AAAAAAAACwk/Dz5F9hKijJY/s640/rr8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>The bonus came later in the day as we were allowed to slip the kayaks into the water and fish the same water.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hKUyf8cz0bo/UmG1271_78I/AAAAAAAACws/UUJm85NdG_Y/s1600/rr1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hKUyf8cz0bo/UmG1271_78I/AAAAAAAACws/UUJm85NdG_Y/s640/rr1.jpg" width="477" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>With the wind blowing and rain falling I worked a grassy shoreline surrounded by deep water that had bass exploding on the top hitting dragonfly's as they landed on the grass. Tying a popper on I began to throw into the grass and began to catch and release one bass after another, with the occasional very large perch exploding on the popper as well.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fdQCbw-TfT8/UmG27SQFpxI/AAAAAAAACw0/9ByfnuImPBI/s1600/rr4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-fdQCbw-TfT8/UmG27SQFpxI/AAAAAAAACw0/9ByfnuImPBI/s640/rr4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<strong><em>After the storm blew through I paddled over to a tree filled area and again worked the popper with better results as I landed some four pound bass and lost a few larger ones due to leaving the net at home.</em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<strong><em>Can't say enough about how much I enjoy being able to give back to the people who do their best to protect our freedom.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />

<strong><em>If it wasn't for friends this trip would have been miserable. Spent a week flipping through old pictures from past trips that we did each year on this same stretch of river. <strong><em>It took two hours to reach my destination on the Colorado river just outside of Austin. Thirteen miles were to be paddled and fished over the next two days. <strong><em>With the water getting muddier and choked with this floating vegetation we decided to proceed and make the best of it. This annual trip started a few years ago with some friends getting together and camping out for the weekend. With an open invite it grew to a total of 24 people, many that have already fished together and new ones that were intrigued.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em>Most of the day was spent floating and trying to fish any pocket of open water that we could find. With only three weeks left in the Texas Double Haul Tournament, I was itching to get on the leaderboard.</strong><br />
<strong></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<strong>Concentrating on Bass and Perch had me with two rods on the yak today. One with a hopper fly and the other with a Cajun Cheerleader which imitates a Crayfish as it is moving through the water. Casting the hopper along the bank of the river produced some great action and caught both species that were being sought.</strong><br />

<strong>Making a move around noon to a deeper section of the river that offered shade along the Cypress studded banks I decided to take a break from the 100 degree temp to get hydrated and have a little snack.</strong><br />

<strong>Back on the water and tossing the cheerleader into a deep bluff and beginning to slowly strip it back, the line grew tight and lifting the rod I knew that a good one had taken the fly. After a short battle the fish was landed, photographed, then released for the next time.</strong><br />

If it wasn't benefiting a good cause (Casting For Recovery) I am not sure I would have fished the Lydia Ann Fly Masters tournament to begin with.</em></strong><br />

<br />
<strong><em>Arriving at Tarpon Shores Marina I was greeted with a strong gusting wind and high water as I waited to pay my entry fee. After talking to a few fisherman coming off the water and finding out that the fishing had been tough actually made me feel better. I tend to compete better under tough conditions because to me it levels the field. After dinner and checking into the hotel, I proceeded to get my gear sorted and tied on some new leaders for the next day. 4am was going to come soon so I hit the sack.</em></strong><br />

<br />
<strong><em>Having only fished this area twice before I had settled on fishing the Light House Lakes section. With its narrow trails and hidden lakes I figured the wind wouldn't bother me as much so I took my <a href="http://jacksonkayak.com/jk-kayaks/kayak-fishing/superfishal/">SUPerFISHal</a> in order to navigate the area while standing and be able to see more fish. </em></strong><br />

<br />
<strong><em>Paddling to the back of the lakes and entering the trails, it didn't take long to start seeing reds cruising around. I was amazed at how many would come up to the fly and then turn away without inhaling it. Pretty frustrating but that's why they call it fishing.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em>A good effort was given and although the results weren't good it was still fun to do. The weigh in showed proof to how tough of a day it was with a lot of skilled saltwater fisherman drawing blanks as well. <strong><em>This was only the third time to use the hybrid paddleboard but it wont be the last. Really enjoyed the ability to stand and cast to the fish that were easier to see because of this. It's not the fastest but it is very stable and a great platform to fly fish from. For the long paddles I just take a seat from my kayak and lay it on the deck to sit on while paddling. When the destination is reached, it is just put behind the cooler to clear the deck area for standing and poling around.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em>The cooler I use on it is a <a href="http://www.k2-coolers.com/">K2</a> Cube. At 30 quarts it makes a great seat to rest on and a good poling platform. It also left me with a cold drink after three days of one bag of ice in 100 plus degree weather.</em></strong><br />

Rain had been scattered throughout the area for a few days and it would continue during my stay.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3SoDVwr1itE/UeGYmjJx-yI/AAAAAAAACjw/17kvLN-KSfY/s1600/1044241_603333173031539_2061763916_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3SoDVwr1itE/UeGYmjJx-yI/AAAAAAAACjw/17kvLN-KSfY/s640/1044241_603333173031539_2061763916_n.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>The morning greeted me with some decent weather as the brackish water was flat and the sky cloudy. Slid the kayak into the canal and made the paddle to try out some of the grassy cuts. This trip was all about catching a redfish on a fly rod and I was well equipped for the task.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<strong><em>Lightning would end up running me off the water as the storms increased. Since there was a craving for some mudbugs the opportunity presented itself and many would be eaten.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<strong><em>The tide had fallen and this was the first time for me to see any fish activity in three days of trying to fish. Casting a fly that resembled a shrimp into every cut and grass line I am still fishless. About 40 yards from me in a small cut, I see a wake come out and baitfish scatter. Being as quiet as possible I approached and laid a cast into the cut with no takers. Studying the bank and making a cast to the clump of grass on the point the fly laid down and was met with a take. Setting the hook and the kayak being turned from the bank to deeper water, I took it easy and let the drag do its job. Pulling out the net and trying to turn the red around it happened, the line went limp as the tippet came loose from the leader. So much for celebrating that first red on the fly. This would be my only take of the trip and the fight was well worth all of the frustration that the weather presented. As I paddle back the sky cleared and the wind was gone which made for a beautiful sunset.</em></strong><br />

I had to go find out first hand and all I can say is the pictures don't do it justice.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZETUj_iJdoE/UdVqaSTYi2I/AAAAAAAACho/-XsEIhX6SFI/s1600/L13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="478" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZETUj_iJdoE/UdVqaSTYi2I/AAAAAAAACho/-XsEIhX6SFI/s640/L13.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>Hiking down the worn trail a glimpse of the river came into view. Never had I seen water so clear and a carved limestone bottom like this river bed before. The grooves under my feet worn through the rock by many years of flowing water and the granite boulders everywhere just added to its beauty.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JtluEWOYeqw/UdVrw0QunSI/AAAAAAAACh4/Ps3anATmZAk/s1600/L1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JtluEWOYeqw/UdVrw0QunSI/AAAAAAAACh4/Ps3anATmZAk/s640/L1.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>Easing into the water and casting a <a href="http://matthewscustomrods.blogspot.com/2013/05/another-kabuto-build.html">Matthews 5wt</a> with a wooly bugger tied to the lightweight tippet, it didn't take long for a bluegill to add a tug to the end of the line.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q4kiLubqyPE/UdVs5UgjZzI/AAAAAAAACiE/TcxlM4sqmgE/s1600/L6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q4kiLubqyPE/UdVs5UgjZzI/AAAAAAAACiE/TcxlM4sqmgE/s640/L6.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>Heading further downriver to explore some, I was greeted with a first for me as a freshwater drum came to hand. I have seen them on other rivers and tried to catch them before with no luck so a grin came to my face when it was released back into the water.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FfgukbHNexc/UdVtxJ8waQI/AAAAAAAACiQ/iplzRb2Dm-c/s1600/L7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FfgukbHNexc/UdVtxJ8waQI/AAAAAAAACiQ/iplzRb2Dm-c/s640/L7.jpg" width="478" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em>Many drum were seen throughout the day and a couple followed the fly, but not another one landed. The day was also filled with many species of fish found including gar, bass, and carp. With the water so clear the fish definitely have the advantage here.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />

<strong><em>When the opportunity is presents itself you take advantage of it, guess that's what was going through his mind when he tried to eat the fly.</em></strong><br />

<strong><em>It comes from a company called <a href="http://www.risenfly.com/">Risen Fly</a> based out of Beaver Falls, PA. and is available in 3/4,5/6,7/8, and 9/10wts in both Black or Gunmetal colors. The company also offers fly line, backing, fly boxes and some accessories.</em></strong><br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0iYe1SYFtus/UbNQIQBTy5I/AAAAAAAACfw/nunVaRAicvs/s1600/aaa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-0iYe1SYFtus/UbNQIQBTy5I/AAAAAAAACfw/nunVaRAicvs/s400/aaa.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<strong><em>Pairing the reel with my custom Kabuto rod I went out and put it through the paces.</em></strong><br />

<br />
<strong><em></em></strong><br />
<strong><em>Some things I noticed about the reel was that the finish is nice, it comes apart easy. Line stripping is very smooth and the reel is easy to palm when fighting a fish. The drag hasn't been tested yet because the bigger fish did not want to cooperate during the trip but the adjustment knob is large, which makes it easy to control if you are fighting a bigger fish.</em></strong><br />
